Meet-ups and events.

Every three months in a different district, each time at a different hostel. No programme, no talks, no fee – just colleagues talking and a few new faces. Not a member yet? Come along anyway; a quick word is enough.

How an evening runs

A different house hosts each time. We meet around 6 pm, usually in the lobby or the bar, and start with a tour – whoever wants to shows their operation, the new reception, the rebuilt breakfast room. That is the part most people come for: seeing how the others solve it.

After that we sit down together. No agenda, no talks, no round of introductions with business cards. Whoever brings a topic raises it: a staffing question, trouble with a booking portal, an experience with the trade inspectorate. The group breaks up around 9 pm; some stay longer.

Who comes

Owners, general managers and senior staff from operations, reservations and marketing. Usually twelve to twenty people from eight to twelve houses. Small guesthouses with twenty beds sit next to chains with several hundred – the questions are more alike than you would think.

What is discussed stays in the room. That is not a formality: nobody speaks openly about staff, prices and incidents if it is doing the rounds the next day. Press and suppliers are therefore not invited.

Cost and signing up

The evening costs nothing. The hosting house provides the room, drinks and usually a bite to eat. For a system like this to work, every regular takes a turn as host.

Registered members confirm in the members’ area and see who else is coming. Anyone not yet a member simply writes an email – guests are welcome if they work in a Berlin hostel and have been approved by the team.
