BBQ at the Pfefferbett Hostel: A look back at the Hostel Round Table on 25 August 2026

Summer was kind to us once again: on 25 August 2026, we were guests at the Pfefferbett Hostel, which had invited the Hostel Round Table to a barbecue. Sixteen representatives from Berlin hostels accepted the invitation and were welcomed by a team of hosts who really did everything just right. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the entire Pfefferbett team for their hospitality, the barbecue and the relaxed atmosphere.

The topics of the evening

Over barbecued food and cool drinks, the evening quickly turned into exactly what the Round Table is all about: an honest exchange between colleagues. Three topics dominated the evening:

PMS systems. What can each system do, where do the snags lie in day-to-day operations, and what does switching actually cost? The accounts from the individual hostels were candid and detailed – exactly the sort of information you won’t find in any provider’s brochure.

Change of operator. Several Berlin hostels are due to change hands or have just done so. We discussed what such transitions mean for teams, booking volumes and guest communication, and what to look out for during the transition phase.

Market situation. To round off the session, we took a look at the tourism market in general and the hostel market in particular: how are booking patterns, length of stay and price levels developing, and what does this mean for the coming months?

What’s next

We also had some good news: the ‘Die Fabrik’ hostel in Kreuzberg has offered to host the next meeting. We’re delighted about this. The aim is to hold it in November. We’ll finalise a specific date over the coming weeks and announce it in good time.
